The Bulloch House
Known for its Southern charm and its Southern hospitality, The Bulloch House in Warm Springs, GA is best known for its delicious Southern style cooking. It was built back in 1893 by Benjamin Bulloch, the original founder of Bullochville, which was later re-named Warm Springs by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was renovated by the Garrets and the Fosters in 1990 and turned into a restaurant.
In 2010 Peter and Sandy Lampert purchased it and continued to make improvements and build a reputation which drew people from all over the state of Georgia and beyond. This journey continued until a tragic night in June 2015 when lightning struck and caused a fire which totally destroyed the historic structure.
With the determination of the owners and the tremendous support from the local community and their huge following of fans, the Lamperts were able to secure 2 vacant buildings within six months, thus allowing them to re-open The Bulloch House and their gift shop. Both businesses are located right on Broad Street in Warm Springs, Ga. only one block away from the original location.
Since re-opening, Peter and Sandy have enlarged their gift shop, which they named the Fireflies Gift Boutique to accommodate a second business called “Lightin’ Bugs Bakery and Cafe”.
Lightnin’ Bugs is a charming quaint eatery, with tables made by using unclaimed wood and walls showcasing the original brick. Lighnin’ Bugs Bakery and Cafe serves fresh coffee daily along with daily lunch specials. They have also created an outdoor seating area.
Asked how Fireflies Gift Boutique and Lightnin Bug’s names came into existence, Sandy said “The night of the fire, Peter and I watched as hundreds of embers flew in the air and through the trees and I thought about how they looked like dancing fireflies”.
With Peter and Sandy’s creative vision and their positive attitudes, what was once ashes has now become a symbol of hard work and determination. This symbol has also sparked the creation of several other new businesses in the downtown area. So, come and visit Warm Springs and make some memories in Meriwether.
